Stafford man’s celebrity signed jacket to be auctioned for Midlands Air Ambulance

A Stafford man has played host to some famous names after volunteering at a charity event.

Tim Rowlands has been involved with the Midlands Air Ambulance for more than a decade, and last month he hosted their Bike4Life Ride.

It was the first Bike4Life event to take place in person following two years of virtual ride-outs due to Covid-19 restrictions.

It attracted the attention of thousands of supportive bikers, including famed motorcycle enthusiasts like World Superbike Champion Carl Fogarty and Steve Parrish.

The Ride Out, which saw around 4,000 bikers take part, started at Meole Brace in Shrewsbury where Tim kicked off the day. Riders then took in 23-miles of the M54 before finishing at RAF Cosford where the Bike4Life Festival saw crowds of all ages greet the bikers.

Speaking about volunteering, Tim said: “I’ve been hosting events raising money for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity for over 10 years now but have been an official volunteer for four years.

“I host/compere their Airbase open days and other events including organising events to help raise money for this great public-funded lifesaving charity.

“The MAAC charity is very close to my heart and a charity I love to be involved with, especially raising money and awareness.

“Bike4Life is our biggest event since Covid-19 hit us so it’s great to be back and I can certainly say it’s the best Bike4Life so far.

“At the event, I get to keep the thousands of bikers entertained before they set off on the ride out. I interview some amazing people on stage including those that have needed to be airlifted, and I also get to chat with the lifesavers themselves – the critical care paramedics including the pilot.

“I also spoke with our celebrity supporters including Carl Fogarty who has given his continued support over the years.

“The atmosphere is electric and it’s great to see so many people giving us their support.

“Our last ride in 2019 raised £82,000 which funded 30 lifesaving missions so hopefully we have beat that target.”

The jacket Tim was wearing on the day was signed by all the celebrities attending on the day and will soon be auctioned off at the charity’s sold-out summer ball with all the funds raised going to the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Tim, 42 from Stafford, added: “I was joined on stage by celebrity riders including racing legend Carl Fogarty, SAS: Who Dares Wins? presenter Ollie Ollerton, Steve Parrish and world champion trial racer Dougie Lampkin who were all big supporters of the event.

“In the 10 years that Bike4Life has been going for the charity, it has raised more than £500,000 and a massive thank you goes out to all of our supporters.

“Without your support, it wouldn’t be possible.”
