Louis Vuitton, the homage to Virgil Abloh during Milan Fashion Week – Icon

In these days of the Milano Fashion Weekin the heart of the Lombard city, the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2022 Men’s Collection. A collection that has already marked history, the last one designed by Virgil Abloh before his death last November, which shocked the world of fashion and beyond. After the tribute fashion show in Miami, today the French maison pays tribute to the artistic director of the men’s line with a Spectacular setting that transforms the shop windows and courtyard of the Montenapoleone shop.

So, here is a sculpture of a toy airplane ‘lands’ in the city. A recurring image of Abloh’s symbolism, the paper plane, also known as origami, is an image that refers to childhood, to dreams but also becomes food for thought in relation to the concept of ownership. Ironically defined by the designer himself as “a miniature imitation of an airplane invented by the Wright brothers in 1903” or as a Un-designed, object of everyday life without artistic property, theairplane stands on a mirrored platform and is decorated with the motif of cloudsfurther reference to Abloh’s work for Louis Vuitton.

L’animation of the shop windows is inspired by the game of chess, one of the key themes of the Spring-Summer 2022 collection, which from fantasy also becomes a metaphor of human existence. From “stalemate” to “checkmate”, the moves and rules of chess are carried into everyday life, during which we face challenges and defeats, we use cunning and intellectual self-defense to continue.

His pawns can be reflected in the aesthetics of a multitude of cultures and subcultures: on an evocative black and white checkered background, bishops, pawns, towers, kings and queens, in extra-size versions, interact with the mannequins. In the collection, the chess graphics give rise to a variety of motifs, textures, three-dimensional effects and trompe l’oeil, while the figures of the game take shape in the silhouettes of the models, through wide skirts, hats and ultra-voluminous gloves.

In the luminous space of the store’s ground floor, an installation overlooks a checkered platform: the scene represents the Leonardo model, who walked on the runway with look 9 from the SS 2022 collection, while playing chess against himself, ready to put himself try and deal with its weaknesses.

Starting from January 20, the Louis Vuitton space in Milano Rinascente, dedicated to men’s collections, will host an immersive installation inspired by the central themes of the aesthetics of the Spring-Summer 2022 collection.
